Stormy
Born May 14, 2008 at 129 pounds!
She was born sometime between 7:30 PM to 7:55 PM on May 14, 2008 on the Feast of St. Mathias. I arrived at the Ranch at 8:00 PM and discovered Equity with her new calf still all slippery wet, bloody and not yet cleaned up. After a couple of hours and several failed attempts she finally managed to stand up. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to nurse before she collapsed from exhaustion...then a HUGE storm came through!
The storm dumped heavy rain and lighting on the moos while I hunkered down in the truck. Fearing her probably drowned, I checked on her after the storm ceased at 3:30 AM and was elated to see her nursing, unfazed by the storm that had just passed! I thought of the name "Stormy" at that moment but it lacked a religious thematic name. Then, after sharing the above story with my friend and mentor Msgr. Henry Petter, he spontaneously said: "you could name her Stormy"! Well, that was confirmation for me. Ergo, her name!
She will stand as a reminder to me that no matter what storm may pass through in life, by trusting in God we can withstand it and come out of it unfazed!
